Every day I see my colleagues buying their lunch from the take-away or gas station, while they could save so much money by preparing their lunch at home. Yes, those meals do look nice, and, yes, I bet they’re delicious! But it’s expensive, and often not that healthy either!
Spending, say, $5 to $10 a day adds up quite fast. You’d think, meh, what’s 5 bucks?
Well, it’s over $100 a month!!
Imagine what $100 buys you in the supermarket! You can buy a delicious loaf of bread, lettuce, cheese, ham, tomatoes, eggs and what more and you’d still be left with probably more than a hundred bucks!
I think just bringing your lunch in general to work or school or wherever you’re going will save you a ton of money, because you’re definitely not going to spend that five or ten dollars on a homemade sandwich, whether it’s peanut butter and jelly or turkey and cheese.
Personally, I prefer a peanut butter sandwich and a cheese sandwich. It’s tasty, provides all the necessary energy, cheap and pretty healthy. Healthier than the in sauce covered ready made subs from the take-away, that’s for sure!
By the way, did you know that $150 (well, $160, but still) is what we actually spend every fortnight on all our groceries? We do that through budgeting. Read more here.
So, long story short, don’t buy the ready made sandwiches, but make your own. It’ll cost you a few minutes in the morning, but, that’s definitely worth the savings, isn’t it!? 🙂
